Beaconsfield Cemetery
A sacred resting place with burial records dating to 1883, maintained with reverence and care.
About the Cemetery
The Beaconsfield Cemetery is one of the oldest continuously maintained burial grounds in the Municipality of Lorne, Manitoba. Its earliest recorded burial dates to 1883 — the earliest pioneer settlers of the Swan Lake area chose this land as their final resting place, even before a church building stood nearby.
Today, the cemetery rests in a peaceful rural setting characteristic of the Manitoba prairie landscape. It holds the remains of pioneer settlers, farming families, veterans, and community members who together shaped the history and character of Swan Lake and the broader Municipality of Lorne.
The Beaconsfield Church & Cemetery Committee maintains the grounds year-round — through spring clean-up days, regular upkeep, and respectful care for every grave marker and monument on the property.
WWI Military Monument — Dedicated June 1921
A monument on the Beaconsfield grounds honours local residents who served in the Canadian military during the First World War. The committee holds an annual Remembrance Day service here each November 11th.
Earliest Recorded Burial: 1883
The cemetery predates the 1903 Church construction. Burial records are maintained by the Manitoba Genealogical Society and are accessible through multiple resources.

Cemetery Maintenance & Preservation
Cemetery maintenance is one of our most important and most visible responsibilities. Our volunteer committee coordinates seasonal care including:
- Spring Clean-Up Day — annual volunteer work day clearing winter debris and preparing the grounds.
- Grave Marker Care — inspection and preservation of headstones, including resetting tipped markers.
- Monument Maintenance — regular inspection of the 1921 WWI Military Monument and surrounding area.
- Church Building Upkeep — structural inspections and repairs to preserve the 1903 wood-frame building.
