Annual Spring Cemetery Clean-Up Day

Every spring, volunteers gather at the Beaconsfield site to prepare the cemetery grounds and church property for the warmer months. Tasks include raking leaves, clearing winter debris, resetting tipped markers, and general tidying of the grounds.

No experience is needed — just enthusiasm and a willingness to roll up your sleeves. Bring work gloves, rakes, and appropriate clothing. Light refreshments provided.

Annual Heritage Gathering

Our informal but deeply meaningful summer heritage gathering brings together families, descendants, historians, and community members at the Beaconsfield site. Share family stories and old photographs, meet others with connections to Beaconsfield, and enjoy the peace of the historic grounds.

A wonderful opportunity to contribute photographs, family records, or oral histories to our growing archive. Light refreshments and guided tours of the site are available.

Autumn Grounds Preparation Day

Before the Manitoba winter sets in, our committee organizes a fall work day to winterize the cemetery grounds and the church building. Tasks include clearing leaves, protecting vulnerable grave markers, securing the building, and any final repairs before the cold season.

Remembrance Day Commemoration at the WWI Monument

On November 11th each year, the committee and community gather at the Beaconsfield Church & Cemetery to observe Remembrance Day at the WWI Military Monument dedicated in June 1921. The ceremony includes the Act of Remembrance, a wreath-laying, and the Last Post.

The names inscribed on the Beaconsfield monument represent the real faces of the war — local young men who left Swan Lake and the Municipality of Lorne to serve Canada, and who never returned home.
